Introduction
After a decade of dominating the global music scene, TWICE finally brought their iconic performances to Taiwan, and it wasn't just any concert. For the first time ever, Taiwanese member Tzuyu got to perform in her home country, near her hometown, marking a historic and deeply emotional moment for both the group and their fans.
A City Painted Blue
The entire city of Kaohsiung transformed into a sea of blue to welcome TWICE home. The color represented not only the group's world tour theme but also Tzuyu's signature color, creating a beautiful tribute to their beloved member. It was impossible to miss the celebration:
- Traffic lights displayed TWICE messages at major intersections
- MRT stations featured TWICE announcements welcoming incoming trains
- Iconic buildings and landmarks illuminated in brilliant blue
- Fans wearing blue everywhere, you could spot ONCEs (TWICE's fandom name) on every street corner
The Princess Returns Home
When Tzuyu arrived at Kaohsiung International Airport, the scene was nothing short of spectacular. Crowds erupted in cheers and screams, treating her arrival like royalty returning to the kingdom. The pride Taiwanese people felt seeing one of their own achieve global superstardom was tangible, this wasn't just a concert, it was a national celebration.
For many Taiwanese fans, this moment represented something profound: proof that someone from their country could reach the pinnacle of the notoriously competitive K-pop industry and become a global icon. Tzuyu's journey from a young trainee to an international superstar has inspired countless people across Taiwan and beyond.
More Than Just a Concert
TWICE has maintained an incredibly strong and loyal fanbase throughout their 10-year career, and this homecoming concert demonstrated just how deep that connection runs.
The energy in the stadium was like no other, fans gave everything for Tzuyu! Every time she appeared on screen, the cheers erupted with overwhelming joy and pride. The atmosphere was deeply emotional as fans celebrated seeing their hometown hero finally perform at home after so many years.
The emotional weight of the evening was evident when Tzuyu addressed the crowd, visibly moved by the overwhelming support from her fellow Taiwanese. As she read out her letter written to her Taiwanese ONCEs!
From when I was a trainee til debut and these ten plus years, I’ve always had a mix of contradicting feelings in my heart. There is hope, there is despair. There is loneliness, there is anticipation and trust. Before debut, it’s because I liked it (dance). I liked to dance and sing at home by myself but I secretly wished deep down in my heart, that maybe one day I would become a celebrity. From that moment, a small spark of hope had been ignited In my heart.
I knew that this road would be tough but I didn’t know that it would be a road where you would have to fight/persist til the very end. I wanted to give up many times but ultimately, I still chose to trust myself. So that’s how I was able to be where I am now. However, when everything looks successful (to you), I would actually feel empty and helpless. I want to try my best to do well but I would feel gradually numb and would find myself missing home often. (Chokes up)
The once burning flame (of passion) started feeling really small and I even questioned if I even belonged here (in training/TWICE). Yet, I didn’t leave. It’s not because I’m obedient or that I listen well, but it’s because I really want it and hope for it. I know that the flame/spark had yet to die so I was still willing to water my seed (of dreams). Maybe there is no end (to this journey), but I will use my own strength to reignite the spark within my heart. I believe that it will become the most blinding flame one day, to shine light onto me and onto other sparks that may seem small, but are as true as they can be.
Lastly, I want to thank all the fans who have been supporting us and for all the things the city of Kaohsiung has done for us. Thank you and I love you.
It was a full-circle moment, from training in South Korea as a teenager to returning home as part of one of the world's most successful girl groups.
